Hours after a Supreme Court deadline to move Imran Khan to Shifa hospital, authorities instead took him to PIMS, kept him there briefly and returned him to Adiala jail by 5am, his family and lawyers said.
Tuesday’s order had required the former prime minister to be transferred for medical care over his eye condition, with his personal physician Faisal Sultan present, but Sultan said he was sent to Shifa as Khan was examined elsewhere.
Uzma Khanum said the PIMS visit lacked blood tests and proper review of Khan’s medication, while officials repeatedly told her he would still be moved; a journalist outside Shifa described heavy police deployment that appeared to mislead media and supporters.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said doctors at PIMS found Khan medically fit and that the switch was necessary because PTI workers created security risks around Shifa, an account PTI denied.
PTI said it will file a contempt petition before the Supreme Court ahead of the next hearing on September 16, arguing the episode violated the order and deepened concerns over Khan’s 10 months in isolation.
