A more than 100-foot tree crashed onto a Boomer Road home in Green Township, destroying a bedroom and causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, while nearby homes also took direct hits from falling trees.
Straight-line winds from Tuesday's storms bent trees in half, knocked down power lines and punched through roofs and walls, prompting residents to shelter in basements as tornado sirens sounded.
By Wednesday night, many neighbors still had no electricity as Duke Energy crews worked across the area, with the utility warning restoration delays were likely because of the scale of damage.
The township's destruction follows the wider Cincinnati-region outage crisis, where Duke had reported 172,000 customers without power Monday and more than 121,000 still affected Tuesday.
