Summary
More than 1,300 flights were canceled at Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong airports on Sunday after Typhoon Dolphin made landfall on China’s eastern coast.
Dolphin struck Taizhou in Zhejiang and northern Fujian with winds of 151 kph, while forecasters warned parts of the region could receive 200-400 mm of rain in the coming days.
Over 300,000 people were moved before landfall, including about 390,000 evacuees in Taizhou and more than 30,000 relocated from high-risk areas in Shanghai.
Zhejiang suspended ferries, cruises and other water activities as authorities warned heavy rain could trigger severe flooding and landslides.
The storm had already lashed northern Taiwan on Saturday, bringing rain to Taipei and prompting some Taiwanese airlines to cancel Sunday flights to China.
