Dry conditions are compounding the heat, lowering river levels, raising fire risk and nearly forcing a shutdown of Hungary’s Paks nuclear plant, according to Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The hot spell is expected to persist through the weekend and into next week, with Skopje forecast to reach 38C as Europe continues to warm faster than any other continent.
