Trump Administration Revokes 100,000-Plus Visas Over DUIs and Crimes

More than 100,000 visas were revoked in 2025 under the State Department’s continuous vetting program, with DUI arrests among the main criminal triggers for action against foreign nationals.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the administration treats visa decisions as national security decisions, arguing that breaking U.S. law or visa terms can justify revocation to protect the public.
The total was more than double the number of visa revocations in Joe Biden’s final year, although officials said most cancellations still involved visa overstays rather than criminal cases.
Revocation is only the first step: Pigott said DHS decides case by case whether a person is deported immediately, removed after serving a sentence, or handled differently while criminal proceedings continue.
Officials tied the policy to broader immigration enforcement, citing recent DUI-related cases and an Oklahoma crash that killed four people as examples of the risks they say justify tougher screening.
