Francesca Hong Says She Won’t Cancel Thanksgiving, Reversing 2020 Post

Politico Playbook on Wednesday quoted Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong calling Thanksgiving her “favorite holiday” and saying, “I don’t want to cancel it. I actually love it.”
Hong was answering renewed scrutiny over a deleted 2020 X post that said “Cancel Thanksgiving” and called the holiday an “original superspreader event” tied to colonialism and Indigenous deaths.
CNN had pressed Hong earlier this week on whether she still wanted Thanksgiving canceled, and she did not give a direct no before later saying views can evolve and stressing the holiday’s role in family and community.
Tom Tiffany, her Republican rival, seized on the episode, saying Hong’s past comments fit a broader socialist effort to undermine traditions and American culture as Wisconsin’s governor race takes shape.
