Cyclospora symptoms can appear within days or take more than two weeks, and testing is slow enough that the CDC estimates a six-week lag between illness onset and national reporting.
Nationwide, the CDC had confirmed more than 6,700 cases as of July 28 and was investigating 11,500 more, even after the Trump administration ended mandatory tracking of cyclospora in a CDC foodborne-disease network.
