If a House candidate withdraws just before the ballot deadline, the district does not lose representation immediately. Its current member stays in office until the term ends, unless that member resigns, dies, or is otherwise removed. What changes is the election process. If the candidate withdraws before the state’s replacement deadline, party officials can usually name a substitute nominee and the race continues with a new name on the ballot. Bernie Moreno said Wednesday the abuse allegations against Rep. Max Miller are “not accusations” but his family’s “lived reality,” pointedly underscoring the dispute after Speaker Mike Johnson declined to denounce the Ohio Republican.
