Q: Can a 12th-year veteran recently cleared of off-field drama truly be the missing piece for Washington's young offense?

Yes — but only as a high-upside complement, not a cure-all. Diggs still looks capable of materially helping Washington’s offense. He is coming off an 85-catch, 1,013-yard season in New England, his seventh 1,000-yard year in eight seasons, and he gives Jayden Daniels something Washington lacked: a proven, precise route runner who can consistently separate and punish single coverage opposite Terry McLaurin. For a young quarterback in a changing system under David Blough, that reliability matters. The timing also makes sense. Washington has cap room, its receiver depth has been uneven, and the current No. 2 options are largely unproven or injury-affected. Diggs does not need to be the focal point to raise the floor of the passing game; he can stabilize it, especially on intermediate downs and in man coverage situations. The off-field question appears largely settled. Diggs was found not guilty in May, and the NFL closed its personal conduct review without discipline, removing the biggest obstacle to a signing. That does not erase scrutiny, but it does lower the practical risk for Washington. The real limit is age and role. At 32 and entering his 12th season, Diggs is unlikely to be the dominant centerpiece he once was. Washington’s offensive growth still depends mostly on Daniels, McLaurin’s health, pass protection and how quickly the younger targets develop. Diggs can be an important missing piece, but not the only one.
