Summary
More than $115,000 flowed to Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate campaign from at least 41 people who work for, led or previously worked with CAIR, according to a Fox News Digital review.
The donor pool reached across multiple states and included senior CAIR figures such as board chair Manal Fakhoury, treasurer Eyas Abdeen, vice chair Emad Sabbah and CAIR-Michigan board member Jukaku Tayeb, El-Sayed’s father-in-law.
At least one identified donor, CAIR executive director Nihad Awad, drew backlash after Oct. 7 remarks praising Hamas’ Gaza breakout and disputing Israel’s right to self-defense as an occupying power.
El-Sayed has also appeared at a CAIR event and was paid for a 2022 speaking engagement, adding to scrutiny from Republicans and pro-Israel critics as he heads into a November race against Republican Mike Rogers.
CAIR denied terrorism allegations, pointing to years of statements condemning antisemitism and attacks by Hamas and other designated groups, even as Florida, Texas and the UAE have labeled or designated it a terrorist organization.
