Summary
Tanya Reynolds has been cast as Alice, the assistant coach of AFC Richmond’s women’s team and the biggest new character in Ted Lasso’s fourth season.
Jason Sudeikis offered Reynolds the job over Zoom after she initially passed because of West End stage commitments, then later taped an audition once The Seagull had wrapped.
Alice enters as the series shifts from Richmond’s men’s squad to its women’s side; Reynolds said the character is a former player sidelined by recurring ACL injuries who must learn to coach and open up.
Reynolds, best known for Sex Education, said she had never watched Ted Lasso before the offer, then binged all 3 earlier seasons and leaned on returning cast members as she settled into the role.
Ted Lasso returns to Apple TV on Aug. 5, with weekly episode releases for the Emmy-winning comedy’s fourth season.
