AI Study Finds 44% of 67,008 GLP-1 Users Report Side Effects Beyond Labels

410,198 Reddit posts analyzed by an AI model found 44% of 67,008 self-identified semaglutide or tirzepatide users reported at least one side effect, averaging 2.7 symptoms.
Common complaints still matched drug labels—nausea 37%, fatigue 17%, vomiting 16%, constipation 15% and diarrhea 13%—but the Nature Health study also surfaced less-discussed problems not routinely emphasized in prescribing discussions.
3.8% reported reproductive symptoms such as irregular or heavy bleeding, while tirzepatide can also weaken oral contraceptive effectiveness during initiation and dose increases, raising concern because GLP-1 drugs are not recommended in pregnancy.
Other signals included burping at 6.9%, hair loss at 3.1%, altered taste at 1.4% and chills at 1.1%; the report links many of them to slowed gastric emptying, rapid weight loss and hypothalamic effects.
The study does not prove true frequency or causality, but it adds real-world patient reports suggesting GLP-1 labels may miss clinically relevant symptoms that could be managed with slower titration, hydration and nutrition support.
