A chart Musk shared on X on Sunday showed dates from July 2023 to July 2026 and rising blue bars, but no y-axis or label explaining what the bars measured.
Grok, Musk’s own AI chatbot, could only infer the meme-like annotation “it’s so over” and admitted “the exact underlying data” was unlabeled, underscoring the ambiguity.
Paul Graham had posted a nearly identical graph earlier, suggesting it showed a company’s revenue without naming the company; Musk reposted a version with added text and no credit.
The post still drew praise from some Musk supporters, while users on X and Reddit mocked it and tried to guess whether it referred to AI spending, data centers or capabilities.
The episode fits Musk’s broader pattern of sweeping AI claims, including predictions that AI will surpass human intelligence within 5 years and make money irrelevant by 2036.
