Samsung Galaxy phones can store hidden “pre-edit backups” of every photo or video changed in the Gallery app, quietly taking up space that users can delete.
Each edit creates an original-file backup so the media can be restored later, and those copies can build into gigabytes over time—especially for users who edit often.
Smart Switch can carry the invisible files onto newer Galaxy devices, meaning backups from several phone generations may still be consuming storage on a brand-new handset.
Device Care > Storage is where Samsung surfaces the files for review; deleting them keeps the edited photos and videos but removes the ability to restore the original versions.
