Expert Urges EU to Revise Cybersecurity Act, Shield 100% of Critical Networks

Andrea Giuricin said the EU should use its Cybersecurity Act revision to tighten digital supply-chain rules and move faster against high-risk vendors in critical networks.
The warning rests on rising spillover from cyberattacks into the physical world, with Giuricin citing Sweden's heating-plant breach and a December attack that damaged control systems on Poland's power grid.
He argued member states should no longer treat telecom supplier choices as purely national decisions because vulnerabilities in one country can weaken the wider Single Market.
Giuricin said Europe should stay open to trade and investment, but distinguish trusted partners from suppliers exposed to state pressure—especially Chinese firms he said can be compelled to aid intelligence services.
The broader message is that Europe must replace blanket faith in interdependence with a security-based approach to digital infrastructure that protects hospitals, ports, factories and railways.
