National Grid Launches £5 Million Fund to Help 5,000 UK Young People Into Work

National Grid said its new Power Within Employability Fund will support up to 1,000 young people a year across the UK from the first half of 2027, targeting those not in employment, education or training.
£5 million over five years will fund practical barriers support, industry qualifications, one-to-one coaching, job-readiness training and links to jobs across National Grid, its suppliers and the wider energy sector.
The company framed the programme as a response to rising demand for skilled labour in energy, infrastructure and construction, where employers are trying to fill shortages tied to future projects.
The launch also aligns with the UK government's push to elevate technical education and connect schools, colleges, employers and local leaders more closely to local labour-market needs.
Government ministers say the clean-energy drive has already attracted more than £100 billion in private investment and could create 400,000 extra jobs by the end of the decade.
