Summary
Pope Leo XIV said he is following Ceuta’s “alarming situation” closely and prayed for “peace, stability, and justice” after the Angelus on Aug. 2.
Up to 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave between July 30 and 31, many by swimming or walking along the El Tarajal breakwater.
Several dozen migrants died during the attempt or its aftermath, prompting Ceuta president Juan Jesús Vivas to call it “a situation of absolute humanitarian and social emergency.”
Leo invoked the intercession of Our Lady of Africa and broadened his appeal to pray for an end to wars worldwide and for diplomatic solutions to conflicts.
