OpenAI rolled out deeper ChatGPT browser integration through its Chrome extension and desktop app, letting users query the page, highlighted text, YouTube videos and multiple open tabs without copying content into chat.
The update adds Side Chat in Chrome plus desktop URL suggestions, optional browser-history access and controls over how browsing data is managed, aiming to make ChatGPT behave more like an in-browser research assistant.
OpenAI said users need the latest ChatGPT desktop app or Chrome extension, though access is being released gradually rather than all at once.
The move follows OpenAI's decision to sunset ChatGPT Atlas and keeps ChatGPT inside Chrome instead of pushing users to a separate browser.
