Jillian Michaels warned that Americans are self-dosing unregulated online weight-loss peptides, saying foreign-sourced compounds can trigger heart problems, vision loss, hormonal disruption and even suicidal ideation.
70% of Gen Z feels pressure to keep up with social-media-driven “healthmaxxing,” she said, arguing many buyers are chasing quick “vanity pounds” loss rather than treating severe obesity under medical supervision.
FDA-approved GLP-1 drugs can be appropriate with a doctor’s oversight, Michaels said, but stopping unapproved versions can spark rebound hunger and a yo-yo dieting cycle after users alter their hormone balance.
30 warning letters went to telehealth companies in March over misleading compounded-GLP-1 claims, and the FDA said in June it had logged hundreds of adverse-event reports tied to unapproved products.
