U.S. demand already points to shortages: McKinsey estimated a need for 130,000 more electricians, 240,000 construction laborers and 150,000 construction supervisors between 2023 and 2030.
Other executives see the same mismatch from another angle, with Ford's Jim Farley saying tech entry-level hiring has fallen 50% since 2019 while the U.S. lacks enough factory and construction workers.
BlackRock's Larry Fink has also warned electricians could become a bottleneck for AI data centers, underscoring how the AI boom may shift opportunity from white-collar paths to skilled trades.
