For most buyers without a trade-in, Amazon’s preorder bonus is the cleaner and often better-value deal. You pay the standard $379.99 for the 40mm Bluetooth Galaxy Watch 9 and get a $50 Amazon gift card, which is effectively $50 back if you will actually use Amazon credit. Samsung can save you more only if you have an eligible smartwatch to trade in. Its direct offer runs through Aug. 7 and can cut far deeper than Amazon’s perk: trade-in values reportedly go as high as $250 for devices such as a Galaxy Watch Ultra or Apple Watch Ultra 2, with smaller credits for older Galaxy and Apple Watches. In those cases, Samsung’s net price beats Amazon easily. The catch is that Samsung’s best savings are conditional. Trade-in values depend on the device model and condition, and Samsung says if the trade-in fails inspection or is not sent in on time, the credit can be reversed. Samsung also notes that trade-in promotions cannot always be stacked with other offers. For buyers without a qualifying trade-in, Samsung instead offers Samsung Credit—generally up to $50—which is less flexible than Amazon’s gift card because it must be used within Samsung’s ecosystem. So the answer depends on the shopper. If you do not have a valuable eligible trade-in, Amazon’s no-hassle $50 gift card is likely the best real-world deal. If you do have a recent premium Galaxy or Apple Watch to trade, Samsung’s direct preorder offer can quietly save you much more.
