Google Tests Gemini Setup Assistant for Android in Play Services v26.30.31 Beta

Google is developing a Gemini-powered Android setup assistant that surfaces during new-phone onboarding with account-based recommendations, on-screen prompts and direct settings changes.
In Play Services v26.30.31 beta, the feature suggested adding a recovery phone number and email, while an “Ask Gemini” bar answered setup questions without leaving the flow.
The assistant also guided users through Google tips, Wallet setup and home-address entry, with actions applied instantly instead of redirecting them to separate apps.
At the end of setup, Gemini recommended apps tied to the user’s Google account, and an internal survey indicated Google wants personalized help without making the experience feel overly promotional.
The feature is not live on Android yet, and the APK teardown means it could still change or never reach a public release.
