Trump said in a Truth Social post that Supreme Court decisions on birthright citizenship and tariffs have cost the United States “trillions and trillions of dollars” and damaged its prestige.
The complaint follows two setbacks: the court ruled 5-4 to uphold birthright citizenship and earlier held that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not let a president impose tariffs.
Trump suggested Congress could still address birthright citizenship, though constitutional lawyer Mark Smith said the 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to nearly anyone born in the United States.
Trump’s blocked order would have denied federal recognition of citizenship to some U.S.-born children of undocumented or temporary-status mothers when the father lacked citizenship or permanent residency.
The clash underscores limits on Trump’s executive power even though three of the court’s nine current justices were his first-term nominees.
