Eligible existing OnePlus phones in Western markets will get an optional upgrade path from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17 after the new software officially launches, though OnePlus has not set a rollout date.
By early 2026, OxygenOS and ColorOS had already converged on a shared codebase, leaving mostly aesthetic differences; the new option formalizes that shift rather than adding a meaningfully new platform.
Daily-use changes could include ColorOS's visual design, a different Shelf gesture, and more aggressive background app management, while most headline features such as Trinity Engine and O+ Connect were already available on OxygenOS 16.
Android Authority also expects the transition could bring OPPO-style preinstalled apps and its non-removable app store, although OnePlus has not confirmed bundled software for its ColorOS build.
The move sharpens broader concerns over OnePlus's identity and support in Western markets, with Europe already seeing more business routed to OPPO and U.S. repair logistics still unclear.
