Summary
30% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents now disapprove of Trump, while only 70% say they feel enthusiastic or optimistic about the rest of his term.
56% say the economy is poor and the same share say Trump has not gone far enough to cut everyday prices; 64% report at least moderate hardship from high gas prices.
40% disapprove of Trump’s handling of Iran, up from 30% in March, and 45% say the war’s cost in lives and money has not been worth it.
45% say Trump is out of touch with ordinary Americans, 39% say he is neglecting the country’s biggest problems, and about 3 in 10 say he has gone too far on personal projects and institutional changes.
The erosion matters for 2026 because non-presidential elections already draw weaker turnout from Trump’s base, and a recent Pew poll found only 44% of Republican-leaning voters saw their midterm vote as a vote for Trump.
