About 50 demonstrators gathered in Pasadena on Saturday to honor 75 people who have died since January 2025 during ICE operations or in detention, turning the protest into a vigil with photos, flowers and white crosses.
Two recent fatal shootings drove the action: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was killed by an ICE agent in Houston on July 7, and Johan Sebastian Guerrero, 25, was fatally shot by an ICE officer in Maine earlier this month.
Organizers from San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible said they have rallied at the same intersection every Saturday since March, while residents described fear spreading through immigrant communities, with some carrying passports in public to avoid profiling.
The demonstration also highlighted broader fallout from enforcement activity, including research cited by organizers showing 46,000 fewer customer visits and $3.16 million in revenue losses near nine documented enforcement sites in the two weeks after raids.
