Summary
At least 11 people were killed in overnight drone strikes in and around Ukraine, including eight people—two of them children—at holiday camps in Russian-held Kyrylivka and three Nova Poshta drivers in Ukraine’s Sumy region.
Zaporizhia occupation authorities blamed Ukraine for the Kyrylivka strike and said 14 others, including three children, were wounded, while Sumy officials said a Russian drone hit a civilian facility and sparked a large fire.
Romania said it safely shot down a drone near the Ukrainian border on Saturday, a day after another suspected Russian drone was downed near Padina northeast of Bucharest.
The attacks followed Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s warning late Friday that Ukrainian intelligence expected a large-scale Russian assault, amid a summer rise in civilian deaths despite both sides denying they target civilians.
The latest strikes came after a drone hit a shopping centre in Zaporizhzhia on Friday and a separate attack near Kyiv killed at least 10 people and wounded nearly 100.
