Lou Koller, the singer and co-founder of New York hardcore band Sick of It All, died at 59 after cancer returned following a brief remission, his bandmates said.
June 2024 brought his disclosure that esophageal cancer had spread into his stomach, forcing the band to cancel a European tour while he underwent intensive treatment including chemotherapy.
May 2025 saw Koller declared cancer-free, but the disease came back shortly afterward; the band said "his battle is over now" and called the loss overwhelming.
Queens-born Koller launched Sick of It All in 1986 with his younger brother Armand Majidi, helping define New York hardcore as the band released 12 studio albums and built a global touring following.
