Seahawks Weigh Nwosu Trade for 2027 3rd-Round Pick as Clowney, Bosa Options Emerge

Q: Could a costly trade for an inconsistent veteran truly save the Panthers' doomed pass rush after a devastating rookie injury?

Probably not by itself. Trading for Uchenna Nwosu could stabilize Carolina’s edge room after Nic Scourton’s ACL tear, but it would be more of a patch than a true fix for a pass rush that was already one of the league’s weakest. The case for Nwosu is straightforward: Carolina needs an experienced starter now, and Seattle has enough depth to consider moving him. Nwosu is still not yet 30, played a full 2025 season, and produced 7 sacks overall, including 5.5 sacks and 17 pressures over his first eight games. He would give the Panthers a credible veteran opposite Jaelan Phillips and lessen the pressure on younger options such as Princely Umanmielen and Patrick Jones II. But the risk is real. Nwosu’s recent profile is uneven, not ascending. Injuries wrecked much of his 2023 and 2024 seasons, and his 2025 production fell sharply in the second half, when he had only 1.5 sacks and 6 pressures. Even Seattle-focused analysis now describes him less as a difference-maker than as a solid, reliable edge who sets the table. That is useful, but not the kind of move that usually “saves” a pass rush. The price also matters. A 2027 third-round pick is meaningful, especially with that draft class widely viewed around the league as unusually strong. Carolina has other roster needs and has already invested heavily in Phillips. So the trade makes football sense if the Panthers want competence and depth immediately. It only makes less sense if they expect Nwosu to transform the defense on his own.
