Angie Griffin said U.S. Masters Swimming cleared her of an unsportsmanlike-conduct grievance less than a week after a hearing last month, ending an eight-month case that she feared could lead to expulsion.
The complaint stemmed from forum posts in which Griffin pushed USMS to align its transgender-athlete rules more closely with World Aquatics and referred to a transgender competitor as a man.
Griffin said the threat to her swimming times, honors and membership is gone, but she still cannot access the USMS online forum where members discuss policy changes.
The dispute grew out of backlash after Griffin raced a transgender athlete at the 2025 Spring National Championship, helping drive repeated USMS policy revisions on transgender participation.
Under the current Feb. 21, 2026 policy, swimmers may enter by gender identity, but women seeking national recognition must certify they were female at birth.
