West Bank Shooting Kills 5 in Tell as Israel Readies Extensive Nablus Operation

About 20 settlers entered the village around 8:30 a.m., the village council said, and clashes erupted as residents tried to defend homes and property.
Palestinian officials said Israeli forces killed the four Palestinians after joining the settlers; the military said troops responded to an attack on Israeli hikers and that assailants seized a security weapon.
Israel then surrounded Nablus and prepared an “extensive” counterterror operation, while Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz called for more troops, home demolitions, weapons seizures and revoked work permits in Tell.
The attack risks fresh reprisals in a West Bank already inflamed by recent settler violence and calls from hardline Israeli politicians to devastate nearby Palestinian villages.
