Fox News Poll Finds 83% Back Voter ID as 64% Support Universal Mail-In Ballots

83% of registered voters favor requiring photo ID to register and 77% support it for casting ballots, according to a Fox News poll taken July 17-20 after Donald Trump urged support for the SAVE America Act.
Support for voter ID cuts across party lines—96% of Republicans back ID for registration, along with 83% of independents and 72% of Democrats—while backing has stayed in the 77%-85% range in Fox polling since 2011.
64% also favor universal mail-in voting, but confidence in that system is narrower: 51% think mail ballots will be counted accurately, and partisan splits are sharp, with about 6 in 10 Republicans opposed.
70% support counting ballots postmarked by Election Day even if they arrive later, a practice the Supreme Court upheld in a Mississippi case in June.
The poll also found voters prefer state control of elections by a 68%-31% margin over federal authority, even as the House-passed SAVE America Act remains stalled in the Senate.
