Counterpoint forecasts Apple will take 25% of global foldable smartphone shipments in 2026, entering the market in second place behind Samsung.
Global foldable shipments are projected to rise 21% year over year, with Apple’s arrival expected to intensify competition in premium book-style devices.
Samsung is still seen leading at 32%, down from 40% in 2025, while Huawei slips to 24%, Motorola to 8% and HONOR to 3%.
The report says wider book-type foldables could gain appeal as AI tasks such as document summarizing, editing and cross-app workflows benefit from more screen space.
That outlook follows Samsung’s unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold8, whose shorter, wider design resembles the form factor long rumored for Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra.
