Trump Expands Data Center Cost Pledge to 23 Governors and 200 Stakeholders

Twenty-three Republican governors are joining President Donald Trump’s expanded Ratepayer Protection Pledge, which commits data-center backers not to pass electricity costs on to households.
The White House says about 200 stakeholders have signed on, including governors, legislators, utility CEOs and developers, after Trump first signed the pledge in March with Microsoft, Google, Amazon, OpenAI, xAI and Oracle.
Four governors — Brian Kemp, Jim Pillen, Brad Little and Jeff Landry — are set to appear with Trump, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin at Thursday’s rollout in Washington.
Chris Wright tied the push to criticism of New York’s temporary ban on new large data centers, arguing green-energy-driven restrictions would raise utility bills and weaken the U.S. against China in AI.
The announcement underscores a broader Trump priority: speeding data-center buildouts for AI while containing public backlash over power demand, water use and projects near residential communities.
