A*STAR’s new Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing began operations on July 1, consolidating the agency’s AI, data, digital, modelling, simulation, quantum and high-performance computing work.
The institute was created by integrating 2 existing units—the Institute for Infocomm Research and the Institute of High Performance Computing—to better coordinate research and scale deployment.
A*STAR said the new structure is meant to speed translation of research into applications for industry, the public sector and broader national AI efforts in Singapore.
All projects from the two former institutes will continue under the A*STAR IAIC name, making the launch a reorganization rather than a reset of ongoing work.
