Miyamoto told Famitsu Nintendo is actively pursuing remakes because players often move on after five years, leaving younger audiences without access to games released 10 years earlier.
Two 2026 examples underpin that case: a new version of Star Fox 64 launched last month, and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is due later this year.
He argued remakes do more than resell old titles, saying they make classics more playable for current hardware and can spark future developments by introducing players to the originals.
Miyamoto also said this year's Star Fox and Yoshi games grew out of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, linking Nintendo's remake strategy to its broader lineup planning.
