Two tornadoes touched down Tuesday in Stanhope and Parsippany-Troy Hills, damaging roads and knocking out power but causing no reported injuries.
Nearly 1,000 Morris County customers lost electricity at the storm’s peak, while Stanhope saw downed trees along Route 206 and a tree fire sparked by a fallen power line.
National Weather Service crews will survey both sites Wednesday to determine the tornadoes’ strength, which was not yet available.
The same storm system also triggered flash flooding from Stanhope to Lodi and disrupted Newark air traffic, with ground stops, hundreds of delays and cancellations, and at least one diversion to Philadelphia.
