On Monday's "Club Random" podcast, Bill Maher said liberals are still overreacting to Donald Trump's personality and "surface-level" behavior a decade into his political rise.
Maher argued criticism should target Trump's actions in office, not familiar provocations that "don't really affect" people's daily lives and are unlikely to change.
Citing his own experience, Maher said he cares less about Trump's insults than many critics do, even after collecting nearly 60 of them and getting Trump to sign the list in March 2025.
Maher also pointed to Trump allegedly trying to block his Mark Twain Prize and objecting after his name was removed from the Kennedy Center, but said such gestures were more predictable than consequential.
The broader point, he said, is that people who fixate on Trump's lawn, ballroom or other symbolic controversies let him dominate how they think.
