Nebraska’s preliminary jobless rate edged down to 2.9% in June 2026 on a seasonally adjusted basis, slightly below May and unchanged from a year earlier.
Record-high total nonfarm employment accompanied the decline, a sign state Labor Commissioner Katie Thurber said reflects a still-strong labor market and employer confidence in Nebraska workers.
The 2.9% rate kept Nebraska well below the U.S. unemployment rate of 4.2%, which also fell from the prior month but was 0.1 percentage point higher than in June 2025.
Among states, South Dakota and North Dakota posted the lowest June rates at 2.0% and 2.3%, while Nebraska tied New Hampshire for fifth lowest and Wyoming tied for eighth at 3.2%.
