New Jersey Purges 6,600 Noncitizens From Voter Rolls After 1-Year Software Error

Fewer than 400 of those improperly registered actually voted, Governor Mikie Sherrill said, adding the software flaw was fixed in June 2024 and an investigation began after her office learned of it last Wednesday.
Sherrill said the affected registrants lived across the state and were mostly unaffiliated, while the Division of Elections is still working to clear ineligible names and determine accountability.
The disclosure came days after DHS said a preliminary review found 19,497 likely noncitizen matches in New Jersey records and estimated 35,152 possible noncitizen registrants there as part of a 4-state sweep.
