BCG's 2025 AI at Work report found 55% of African respondents had already upskilled in AI, the highest share among regions surveyed, as companies and governments push to prepare talent for wider AI adoption.
Andela's Kate Woska said the next step is twofold: rapidly retrain working software engineers and build a new generation of AI-native professionals from scratch amid fierce global competition for experienced talent.
Talent supply is still mismatched to project needs, though some diaspora professionals are returning or supporting new ventures; Djamo said it has hired technologists with backgrounds at international tech companies.
Less than 2% of global data-centre capacity sits in Africa, and limited patient capital still constrains deep-tech, hardware and the computing infrastructure needed to fully deploy advanced AI systems.
