Nevada Adds 3,800 June Jobs, Pushing Employment to Record 1.61 Million

Nevada’s nonfarm payrolls rose by 3,800 in June to a record 1,614,100, while the unemployment rate edged down to 5.1% from 5.2%.
Las Vegas drove most of the gain, adding 3,000 jobs and lifting metro employment to a record 1,178,100 as statewide leisure and hospitality added 1,700 positions.
The improvement was uneven: Reno-Sparks lost 600 jobs in June, Carson City lost 100, and statewide trade, transportation and utilities and professional services also declined.
Nevada still had one of the nation’s highest jobless rates, above the 4.2% U.S. rate, even as it led the country in year-over-year job growth for an 11th straight month.
Tourism offered some support, with Las Vegas visitor volume up 0.3% through May, but officials are still pushing to diversify an economy heavily concentrated in leisure and hospitality.
