Minnesota’s Emergency Executive Council extended Executive Order 26-08 for 30 days beyond Aug. 11, keeping state assistance in place for northern communities hit by multiple wildfires.
55,000 acres were burning across Northern Minnesota as of Wednesday afternoon, driving localized evacuations, closing the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and triggering air-quality alerts across the region and state.
Governor Tim Walz had already declared a peacetime emergency and mobilized the Minnesota National Guard to support the wildfire response.
