Summary
Penobscot County elected 44 delegates Saturday as Maine Democrats began choosing 319 delegates across eight counties for the July 25 convention that will replace Graham Platner on the ballot against Sen. Susan Collins.
Results were already in from Franklin, Hancock, Washington and Kennebec counties by 5:15 p.m., with caucuses also underway in Androscoggin, Cumberland and Lincoln.
Troy Jackson entered the day with 670 publicly committed delegate candidates, well ahead of Nirav Shah and Shenna Bellows, who were tied at 445 each.
Those selected this weekend will join the party's 101-member state committee in a 601-person convention, with the remaining eight counties set to elect delegates on Sunday.
