Hundreds of mourners filled a Houston East End funeral home Thursday night for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot and killed by an ICE agent on July 7.
Family and community members said Salgado Araujo was on his way to work in Magnolia Park when he was killed; he is survived by his wife and 3 children.
Blue clothing, flowers, rosaries and mini soccer balls marked the viewing, reflecting his support for Mexico’s national team and the tight-knit East End community.
CRECEN activist Teodoro Aguiluz and former City Council member Letitia Plummer used the gathering to condemn ICE tactics and press local officials to scrutinize how the agency operates in Houston.
The family plans a private service this weekend as the killing continues to fuel grief and demands for change in the city’s immigrant communities.
