Summary
UKMTO said unauthorized personnel boarded the chemical tanker Asana while it was transiting east in the Gulf of Aden, 65 nautical miles south of Yemen’s Al Mukalla port.
The vessel had no confirmed flag and was listed as heading to Somalia’s Bosaso port, while the number of assailants and the status of the ship and crew remained unclear, maritime risk group Vanguard said.
The EU’s Aspides naval mission said efforts were under way to assist the tanker and establish what happened.
A South Korean warship was in the area, underscoring the security risk in the Red Sea-Gulf of Aden corridor off Yemen and Somalia.
