For many buyers outside China, yes—the lack of official Google support is likely the bigger factor than the 200MP camera. Huawei’s Pura 90s Pro Max is strong on hardware. At RM4,899, it brings back 5G, uses Huawei’s Kirin 9030s chip, packs a 6,000mAh battery, and offers a standout camera setup led by a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, plus a 50MP main camera with variable aperture and a 40MP ultrawide. Early reviews suggest the camera is excellent overall, especially for zoom and dynamic range, even if some reviewers say it is not a clear leap over Huawei’s own earlier top models. The problem is software. The international Pura 90s series runs EMUI 16 based on AOSP, not Android with licensed Google Mobile Services. That means no official Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube or seamless Google backup and sign-in support out of the box. Huawei’s AppGallery covers many apps, and workarounds such as MicroG can help some Google apps run, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Apps that depend heavily on Google Play Services, including some banking, transport, work and notification-based apps, may still fail or behave inconsistently. So the answer depends on the user. If you care most about camera hardware, battery life and Huawei’s ecosystem, the Pura 90s Pro Max remains a serious flagship. If you rely daily on Google’s apps and services and want a frictionless Android experience, the missing Google layer is still a deal-breaker.
