Nikkei says Apple has told suppliers to prepare 10 million foldable iPhones this year, reinforcing expectations that a folding model will debut with the iPhone 18 family.
At least five iPhone models are now expected between late 2026 and early 2027: a foldable iPhone Ultra, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, plus the base iPhone 18, 18e and likely Air 2 split across two launch waves.
September 2026 is tipped for the Pro models and foldable, though the foldable may open preorders later because of limited early production; the base iPhone 18, 18e and Air 2 are rumored for March 2027.
Leaks point to a 5.5-inch outer screen and 7.8-inch inner display for the foldable, while the Pro models may add an A20 chip and upgraded camera hardware.
Pricing pressure is building as AI-driven memory and storage costs rise: after recent Mac and iPad increases, analysts see the foldable topping $2,000 and the Pro starting near $1,299.
