Nintendo is still deciding whether to proceed with a Switch 2 OLED, with development reportedly not starting until late 2026 and retail availability unlikely before 2028.
ZDNet Korea said the model would use a Samsung Display rigid OLED panel at 1080p, while key specs such as size, refresh rate and HDR support remain undecided.
Cost is the main obstacle: Nintendo is debating how much of the OLED premium it could absorb versus pass on to buyers, as RAM and SSD prices have climbed since Switch 2 launched.
If approved, mass production is expected around late 2027 or early 2028, giving Nintendo a shorter LCD-to-OLED gap than the original Switch but a long wait for holdout buyers.
