Cristopher Sanchez will start for the National League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park, capping his rise from raw prospect to home-park showcase.
Six Phillies made the NL roster, with Sanchez joined by Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, Jhoan Duran and Jesus Luzardo; Zack Wheeler declined a late invitation after initially being left off.
Schwarber entered Monday’s Home Run Derby leading the majors with 32 homers, while Harper brought 20 and the appeal of an every-game, healthy season.
Philadelphia’s All-Star presence reflects a broader turnaround: the Phillies are two games behind Atlanta, hold a wild-card spot and became the first team to go from 10 under .500 to 10 over before June ended.
